His oversight and fiscal leadership will help Virginia pay for critical government services without raising your taxes. Ralph's allegiance is to Virginia's working families--not to the lobbyists who haunt the halls of the state capitol. Every decision he makes will be made based on what is best for our citizens, not for the benefit of special interests.
Ralph's BioRalph was born in Roanoke in 1942. He grew up attending Huntington Court United Methodist Church where his mother taught Sunday school. After attending public school in Roanoke, Ralph graduated Nashville Auto Diesel College in Tennessee. He also served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
Since 1986, Ralph has been an active member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Ralph was elected mayor of the city of Roanoke in 2000.
From his beginnings as an auto mechanic, to successful businessman, to becoming mayor of his hometown, to now being senator, Ralph Smith has lived the American dream.
